MSP Flight Chaos Proves Nova’s Traveler Bill of Rights Is Needed

CBS News Minnesota says hundreds of flights into and out of MSP were canceled or delayed as the blizzard tightened its grip this morning. Nova’s transportation plan focuses on keeping travelers informed and reimbursed whenever the state orders airlines to stand down for safety.

He wants the Metropolitan Airports Commission to host a single storm dashboard with airline waivers, crew availability, and de-icing capacity so families know whether to stay home. That dashboard exists in his Minnesota Tax Tracker prototype, which also shows how much overtime the state is paying to keep runways open.

Nova also pushes for a traveler bill of rights triggered automatically by MSP ground stops. Airlines would have to cover hotel rooms, meals, and rebooking for every canceled ticket, no fine print. If you get stuck sleeping on the terminal floor, Nova thinks the state failed.

He is pairing that policy with better communication to airports in Duluth, Rochester, and St. Cloud so cancellations do not strand medical flights or Guard crews. The point of calling a storm early is to protect people and keep Minnesota commerce resilient.

This storm is another reminder that MSP needs a governor who plans for aviation logistics the way we plan for plows. Nova is ready to lead that change.
