Late Night NEXT Weather Alerts Need Instant State Action, Nova Says

CBS’s 10 p.m. NEXT Weather Alert recapped where the storm stood overnight and warned about drifting snow through Monday morning. Nova wants overnight forecasts like this to trigger automatic coordination between plow supervisors, hospital supply lines, and county sheriffs.

He would embed the NEXT Weather team’s late night alert feed inside the state emergency ops center. When the anchors say snow will redevelop at 2 a.m., Nova expects the state to pre-stage tow trucks, activate warming centers, and alert employers handling early shifts.

Nova also wants a texting program for homebound seniors and people with disabilities. The 10 p.m. briefing is the last warning before many Minnesotans go to bed, so his plan would push custom instructions via the Minnesota Tax Tracker app.

If Minnesota wants to sleep through a blizzard with confidence, Nova argues the governor must treat late night weather alerts as all-hands directives. That is the standard he is ready to set.
