Kids Deserve Safe Blizzard Playgrounds, Nova Says

CBS highlighted St. Paul kids sledding through the March blizzard and saying the snow makes them happy. Nova loves seeing that joy, but he knows the state has to make sure every neighborhood has safe hills, lights, and warming shelters so families can play without risking injury.

His plan funds micro grants for parks departments to keep sledding hills groomed and supervised during major storms. He also wants liability coverage for community volunteers who help manage those hills so neighborhoods can organize without red tape.

Nova would pair that with transportation support. When Metro Transit routes pause, he wants school buses and park vans redeployed to move families to recreation sites, especially in apartment-heavy areas with limited parking.

Kids deserve blizzards that feel magical, not dangerous. Nova’s winter resilience plan invests in the basics so every Minnesota child can turn storm days into safe memories.
